Mr. Hager is a pretty good storyteller but goes overboard with the details. Long droning paragraphs describing the furniture or room layout or contemplations of characters really drags down the rhythm and story flow.
If you're willing to overlook some unbiblical foolishness such as speaking and praying in tongues and magic holy water this is a pretty good tale. I found the ending less than satisfying but I understand the choices and it is set up for a sequel.
The most important parts are here I cared about the characters and was always interested in what was going to happen next.
I think I'll add this author to my watchlist.
