At the heart of Trudy Wade’s first science fiction novel lies a troubling question
Can redemption be found millennia after a crime is committed?
The question haunts Lar, a warrior who battles the ruthless Clesso on dozens of worlds. But Lar has never been on a mission as mysterious – and perhaps profane – as what he faces now.
Guided by his powerful father, Lar and an expeditionary force are traveling to Eran, a world corrupted by Lar’s ancestors many generations ago, during the first great age of exploration.
Long forgotten, Eran may now hold the knowledge necessary for victory against the Clesso, who threaten the very existence of Lar’s people. But first Lar must pay the price for what his ancestors did to Eran and its inhabitants so long ago.
That price will transform him – as it will everyone who reads The Worlds We Know by Trudy Wade.
Suggested for readers over 18 years of age.
The Worlds We Know eBook Trudy Wade
I purchased this book because Trudy Wade is a politician, as well as a writer, and represents our area. The book starts out slow only in the very first chapter as it is setting up the story. However, these details are very important to the tension of the story. Don't let the beginning fool you. After you get past the set up to explain the culture, and setting, the plot captivates and makes it extremely hard to stop reading.
The book does have twists and turns all the way through and is very much like a mystery book.
One warning, though, is that this book has a very detailed sex scene and some language which uses the word "dammit." So, I wouldn't suggest this as a book as a gift without understanding this (children, for instance). I ranked it four stars for not having this warning.
The ending of the book is a complete surprise and was not anticipated, but was not disappointing.
This book would be interesting to write your own ending in a different way than the author. An English teacher had us do this for a short story for a class one time is why I mention this. It would make an interesting book club discussion book as the book covers morals in an unusual way.
If you like mystery, science fiction, and suspense, and can handle the above warning, then this is a book you will enjoy reading. Just don't expect to get much done once you get past the details of the very first chapter!

The Worlds We Know eBook Trudy Wade Reviews
A great find by a new author. Brings together a mixture of unexpected twist and turns. Taking you to places you won't see coming. You will be left wondering what's next...
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I like sci-fi that draws on historical events that we know and are familiar with, and then twists them by placing them in another context and another time. Egyptian history is perfect for this. Good ending with the potential to subsequent stories. I look forward to the next one.
The Worlds We Know
From the moment I read the first paragraph to the end of the book I was mesmerized. The flow of the book was smooth as a lazy river. I couldn't put the book down. It's the kind of book you think about even when you MUST put it down.
Trudy Wade has a winner in this first novel and I look for more to come from this budding new author.
I read a lot and tend to be quite critical. When I started reading this book, I was immediately impressed by the substance of the book and the excellent writing. Albeit this is Science Fiction, it makes you think about the parallels of today's society. The twists and turns of events have you sitting on the edge of your seat. This book shows great writing technique. The characters are endearing. I look forward to seeing more from this author, Trudy Wade. Bravo!!
Heard about this new book and author by word of mouth. Since Science Fiction, is not something that I would normally pick up to read, I was hesitant about the whole reading experience, but decided to download it to my anyway. I was pleasantly surprised. It was smooth and fast moving with just enough "oomph" to keep the pages turning. Loved the way the author ended the book because you're kind of left out in space wondering what happened. Thrilled to hear there is more to come and this time, I'll be first in line. Congrats on a job well done.
I downloaded THE WORLDS WE KNOW to my and read it each night after I bought it. I often have a hard time putting it down and actually going to sleep because each chapter ends with a "hook" that makes me want to keep reading.
I am a fan of modern sci-fi writers like veteran Kristine Kathryn Rusch. I was interested in this novel because it combines several loves Egyptology, mystery, sci-fi, etc. Although this is a first novel for author Trudy Wade, I can say that her work stands up very well with that of well-known authors like Rusch. In fact, I was pleased to learn that Wade intends to publish 2 more novels, making this book the first in a trilogy.
Wade's characters are very human, diverse, and idiosyncratic. My favorite is the lead character Lar, who places his duty above his personal feelings. I don't understand how Wade made me like him right from the beginning. Because he is a loyal and moral character, I was constantly worried that he would be betrayed by other characters upon whom he relied. I never got tired of this tension, and I don't know how Wade sustained it so well throughout the book.
I look forward to her future efforts and wish she would consider writing some short stories about these characters so we don't have to wait so long for another novel to arrive!
